SEA Project One
the dream
Somneuk grew up in a small, rural village in Southeast Asia, 18 kilometers outside the capital city. Like most in this region, he came from a poor family and witnessed the daily struggle his father undertook as a laborer to provide sustenance and opportunities for his family.
In his village there were no schools, so Somneuk diligently rode the bus back and forth each day to receive an education. As the youngest child in his family, he took this opportunity seriously and dreamed of making a better future for himself and his family.
This pursuit led Somneuk to become a teacher. With a new career and outlook on life, his dreams began expanding beyond teaching and a new desire grew within him and his wife—to return to his village and build a school that would improve the lives of his home community.
He named this dream after his last born son, Sila, which means “The Rock.” He hopes that, like it’s name, the school will be a solid foundation for the children and village to grow upon, be educated, find employment, and improve their situation.
the plan
Phase one of the Laos School Project is to build and operate the first Nursery through Kindergarten education center in the community—providing opportunities and care for children ages two through five. After the four-room school module is successfully running, a second phase will expand the grounds into a primary school that offers classes through the 5th grade.
